Carthage is abundant with arts and culture. Powers Museum, Civil War Museum, Art Central, Maze Creek Studio and Emporium on the Square are just a few of the places where you can enrich your senses. Festivals and community get-togethers help define the unique charm of Carthage. The Maple Leaf Festival shows off Mother Nature's beautiful and multi-colored display of glorious fall colors. It includes one of the area's largest parades, a band contest, arts and crafts festival, car show, baby contest, queen contest and a host of other activities.

The Midwest Gathering of the Artists, an invitational show of fine art that features artists from across the nation, is held each September and offers an auction where patrons may bid on exhibited works.
